Bring Your Own Bottle
Since installing our first FreshPure™ Waters system in 1991, we have
helped prevent millions of empty bottles from clogging our landfills. We encourage
everyone to join the re-use loop re-filling containers you already
own. Glass is good, but it is heavy and susceptible to breakage. We recommend
water containers made from polycarbonate resin (a hard plastic, typically tinted
blue) with a secure screw cap.
In every case, we urge everyone dispensing our self-serve FreshPure™ Waters
to clean and disinfect his or her container regularly. To keep it clean,
always recap an empty bottle.

Polycarbonate Water Containers
All of our FreshPure™ Waters containers are of the highest
quality available, made from Lexan™ polycarbonate resin. This patented resin is used in high-tech applications such as NASA space helmets
and Apple™ computers. Our Lexan™ polycarbonate containers are made
to withstand years of repeated use, and are guaranteed for life. Many
of our customers have had their bottles for 10 years.
Most other containers are produced from PVC or polyethylene. These less
expensive plastics can impart a “plastic-y” odor and taste
to purified water. They also allow ultra-violet (UV) light penetration. Trust our
polycarbonate containers to protect your water from harmful UV rays, and
to keep it as pure and fresh as when you dispensed it.
To identify a true polycarbonate container, look for the recycling triangle
with the Code Number 7 on the bottom of the container. This is your
guarantee of a polycarbonate bottle, one which can withstand repeated sanitization
and filling.
Investing in a polycarbonate container saves you money over time, and cuts
down on the number of plastic bottles entering our landfills.
Depending upon the size you select, FreshPure™ Waters polycarbonate
containers generally range in price from $2.99 to $19.99.
Container Care
To keep your container clean and reusable, we recommend the following:
Freshen. Use one tablespoon baking soda
per half-gallon of regular water. Swish this solution around the
bottle and then pour it out. Rinse well, and seal the container until
you are ready to refill.
Sanitize. Use one teaspoonful of household
bleach or three teaspoons of hydrogen peroxide (the over-the-counter
type works fine) per gallon of water. Swish the solution around
so that it contacts all surfaces, and then fill the container with tap
water. Allow the bleach solution to stand for about 5-15 minutes,
the hydrogen peroxide for one hour. Then empty and rinse your container
repeatedly with tap water until all odor is gone. Let air dry,
then seal.
Water Dispenser Care. Clean and sanitize
your water dispenser every three to six months with the same solution
described in Container Care above.

Long Term Water Storage
Recently released emergency preparedness guidelines issued by the U.S.
Department of Homeland Security recommend that all households maintain
an emergency supply of water -- at least one gallon per person per day for
three days -- for drinking, cooking and personal hygiene. Though the FDA has
not established a shelf life for water, it advises consumers to store containers
at room temperature or cooler, out of direct sunlight, and away from solvents
and chemicals. You can safely store FreshPure™ Waters long-term in a
properly sanitized and tightly sealed polycarbonate container. The Water
Quality Association recommends that a few drops of chlorine in a 5-gallon
container of purified water will help keep bacteria from building up for as
much as one year.
